"SNL" alum Dana Carvey is renowned for impersonating Regis Philbin, and today, he"s within the mix to take on Philbin"s footwear on "Live! with Regis and Kelly," sources say. As the search to locate a Reeg alternative continues to be in the beginning, Carvey has sprang on producers" radar after names including Ryan Seacrest, Andy Cohen and Kelly Ripa"s husband, Mark Consuelos, were bandied several weeks ago. "There"s no narrow your search or front-runner," one source informed. But backstage buzz has Carvey like a top contender. And beloved Philbin exits later this month. Carvey, who made an appearance on "SNL" from 1986-1993, is better noted for starring as Mike Myers" partner Garth within the "Wayne"s World" franchise. The comic can also be noted for "SNL" figures such as the Chapel Lady, and the impressions of Tom Brokaw, George H.W. Rose bush and Jimmy Stewart, amongst others. A repetition for "Live" didn't have comment. Ripa apparently stated in September about them, "Truly, it"s an empty canvas. And everyone is within play."
